Can the real Adira please stand up? Today I met before the beit din, three absolutely glowing human beings. Then came the ritual bath, a mikveh. The water. The prayers. I cried in the corner of the bath afterwards before drying off. I am still Aurora, born Andrea. I now get to share with the world, Adira.
When becoming Jewish, you generally receive a Hebrew name (a rather complicated language that I’ve been trying to slowly digest). Hoping for a name that still reflects my birth name, Adira was a more than perfect fit. Andrea means “strong”. Now add layers of protectiveness and resilience. A more war torn version of Andrea. Appropriate.
